Shouldn't the Kremlin's apparent bio-terror hit on Yuschenko be a learning moment for the American Left? Do they ask themselves, I wonder, why Mr. Rove, the world's worst evil-doer, didn't do something like this to Kerry?
The American Left has convinced itself that Islamism is no big deal and that its opposition to Bush is a treacherous endeavor that requires extraordinary bravery. Like so much else the Left believes, this is hogwash.
If Moore is on the trail of the real killers, how come he doesn't have to move from house to house like Rushdie? How come Moore's dishonest indictment of Bush has gotten him the Palme d'Or at Cannes, while Theo Van Gogh's honest indictment of Islam's misogyny got him shot, stabbed and partially beheaded in the streets of Amsterdam?
Some Lefties are out to such a long lunch that their post-election malaise has caused them to develop loopy exit strategies to get out of Bush's America. Some are learning Dutch and planning to move to Holland. Do they not know that a rolling jihad is happening there? They think a land of tulips and High Times centerfolds awaits them. In reality, Little Algeria and Little Cairo awaits them.
Shouldn't the Left be asking itself, "Why didn't Halliburton, Bechtel and Carlyle engineer a 49 state landslide for Bush like they did for Reagan and Dick Nixon?" and "Why hasn't Papy Bush used some old Langley hands to rub out Michael Moore?" How difficult would it be to make it appear as if the Fatty from Flint OD'd on pork chops?
The fact is Bush Inc. is profoundly fragile. They won by two points in Ohio.
The hard truth is that Team Bush isn't evil-- its ordinary and opposing it has been cost-free. What that means is that the Bush haters aren't dissidents or heroes. It means that the Bush haters are very ordinary.
But the Left needs Bush to be evil. Similarly, they need Iraq to be Vietnam. Because opposing a President who isn't the Evil One, and opposing a war that just might work in the end, is no fun.
The hard truth isn't fun either . The Left prefers to be seen in soft light. With vaseline on the lens, they are beautiful and brave. They are Rosa Parks.
While they are crowing about sitting in a seat that no one is telling them to get out of, we should remind them of Mr. Van Gogh in terms they can understand. Remember Emmett Till.
